About the Association

Ethics Committee

The committee responsible for developing and maintaining the association's Code of Ethics, and for serving as an educational resource to members on questions of professional conduct.

Role of the committee

The Ethics Committee develops and maintains the Code of Ethics that every member agrees to on joining the association, and keeps it current as law and industry practice change.

The committee also serves as an educational resource. Any member facing a question about professional conduct — a fee arrangement they are unsure of, a client situation with no obvious right answer, a request from a third party that raises a conflict — may bring it to the committee for guidance before acting.

The committee is an educational body rather than an investigative one. It does not adjudicate disputed facts, and it does not substitute for the state regulatory authorities and courts that have jurisdiction over allegations of misconduct. How concerns raised about a member are handled is set out in our Policy and Procedures.

Contacting the committee

Members with a question about ethical or professional conduct may reach the committee through the association at 1-877-222-2052 or via our contact page.

Consumers wishing to raise a concern about a member should use the complaint process rather than contacting the committee directly.
